Science for the Country!
Our institution which has been established in 2000 by merging of several formerly independent universities and colleges provides education and training in several fields of life sciences, engineering, humanities as well as social sciences. The Szent István University, which has now six faculties, in addition to appreciation and enrichment of its agricultural traditions, has expanded its scientific and educational activities also to natural resources. The agriculture based education, focusing on plant production, animal breeding and veterinary medicine, has significantly widened recently. We offer knowledge in rural development, environment protection, engineering, arts and economic studies. One of our schools has 220 years of teaching record while others are younger, but they all have one thing in common: through its faculties the Szent István University during less than one decade of history has gained nationwide and international recognition. Our schools deal comprehensively with issues related to human-beings, nature, environment, economy and society, and searching for acceptable solutions for the practice. We provide knowledge and expertise beginning from problem-based scientific thinking to the real product, ranging from veterinary sciences to architecture, from teacher training through engineering to economics. Our aim is to remain respected member of both the national and the European higher educational network, where it is not only good but also worthwile to study or to work. The University puts an emphasis on high quality training: we want to grant our graduates degrees that provide good chance to find appropriate jobs on the labor market.
The geographical location of Szent István University is excellent: this is the only higher education institution in central Hungary with schools in the capital and in Pest county, and even beyond the regional borders, in the area of Jászság. Due to its central location, excellent accessibility, beautiful landscape and rich cultural traditions, Gödöllő is perfectly suitable place for a multidisciplinary university center meeting all international standards. The fast economic development and the modern enterprises enable a synergy between the university and the region and facilitate the mutual benefit.
It is extremely important to maintain and intensify the relations with the society (industry, agriculture, civil sphere), since they provide the education-research tasks for us and offer jobs for our graduates. Promising expectations can be justified toward the recently founded Regional University Knowledge Center operating on the central campus since it is based on sustainable natural resources. We have close relationship with the city of Gödöllő and its institutions and a cooperation agreement has also been signed with the Gödöllő Royal Castle. We intend to extend the training toward the field of tourism, especially tourism- and hotel management, horse-related sports and hunting as well.
The attractiveness of our university has been increased by recent opening a fully furbished new student hostel for 464 in Gödöllő, by establishing multimedia laboratories at the Veterinary Faculty and the Ybl Miklós School of Architecture in Budapest as well as at the School of Liberal Arts in Jászberény, and by founding a student information center in Gödöllő. In addition, student hostels are being renovated both in Jászberény and Gödöllő at the moment and we are planning to expand lecture halls and seminar rooms at the Ybl Miklós School and the entire reconstruction of the education buildings in Gödöllő will soon be started.
