Brazilian Minister for Fisheries and Aquaculture at SZIU
Marcelo Crivella, Brazilian Minister for Fisheries and Aquaculture, and Brazilian Ambassador Sergio Eduardo Moreira Lima visited SZIU on March 4th, 2013.
Dr. Erika Michéli, vice-rector for international relations, welcomed the Minister and his delegation and presented the university's teaching and research capacity, emphasizing that our MSc and PhD courses in English are ready to host Brazilian students.
Further discussion was held at the Department of Fishery, where Dr. Béla Urbányi, head of department, presented their current Brazilian aquaculture research and plans. The staff of the department introduced their training opportunities and potential areas of research and collaboration. They would mainly focus on the following areas: development of carp pond farming technology , exploitation of fisheries in Brazilian reservoirs, and propagation of economically significant native species of fish in Brazil.
The minister was happy to hear that the department has an active and productive relationship with several Brazilian institutions and in his closing speech he expressed the hope that after their visit our university would become a strategic partner in the development of Brazilian fisheries and aquaculture.
