8 May 2020

FOD-REDS, a team of SZIU students, won first prize at Student Innovation Challenge student competition supported by Hungarocontrol. Viktor Vilcsek, Dániel Búza and Gergő Fórián, mechanical engineering students, were enriched not only with a huge experience, but also with a sum of HUF 300,000. One of the topics of this year’s competition was the use of artificial intelligence in air traffic control, and the university students could present the possible functions, services and business model of a mobile application that supports drone flights (UTM application) in their essays.

In their application, titled Artificial Intelligence-controlled, Drone FOD Removal System, FOD-REDS described their detailed concept and project plan as well as presented the prototype development plan, for which they received the highest score from the competition jury.

When working out their application, the team members could make a good use of the knowledge of technologies that they acquired first, during their studies and second, as the participants of the ongoing FIEK project of SZIU.

The team prepared for the competition with the help of Innopool Campus, which is the student innovation platform of SZIU Innovation Management Center.
